Guns of the World Wars Poker Shoot and Match

Two Events in One

Event Overview

General

  • Entrants will be presented eight targets at 100 yards (targets used will be the Basic Training Bullseye target produced by Thompson Target).
  • Entrants will take two shots at each of the eight targets within the specified time limit.
  • Entrants will be allowed to take unlimited warm-up/verification shots at a second provided target at any point during their course of fire.
  • Only models of firearms used during World War I or II will be allowed in the event.

Poker Portion

  • If either shot breaks or is inside of the orange inner circle (approx two inches in diameter), the shooter will earn a card draw.
  • Following the conclusion of the entrants' shots, cards will be drawn from a standard 52 card deck and recorded. The cards will then be re-collected and the deck will then be reshuffled for the next entrant.
  • The entrant who can construct the best five card poker hand from their cards will be the winner of the poker portion of the event.

Match Portion

  • The event organizer will score all sixteen target shots, with the shooter with the highest score being the winner of the match portion of the event.

Entrant Criteria and Eligibility

Event entry is open to the following:

  • MCSC Members
  • Guests of MCSC Members who are spouses of a member
  • Guests of MCSC Members who are juniors

Guests of members who are eighteen or older are ineligible to enter the event.

FAQs

Q:   What type of rifle can be used?
A:   Any rifle, carbine, or PCC used in either of the World Wars that conforms with MCSC rules can be used.
Q:   Are there any equipment rules or restrictions?
A:   Yes.  Participants may only use an unattached soft front bag, or a sling.  No rigid rests or lead sleds may be used.
Q:   Are rear rests allowed?
A:   No, apart from the shooters hand.
Q:   Is there an entry fee?
A:   No.  Entry is free.
Q:   Can I take any “warm up” shots?
A:   Yes.  Participants may take unlimited “warm up” shots at a provided “warm up” target.
Q:   Is there a time limit?
A:   Yes.  Participants are limited to twenty minutes to complete their shots.
Q:   Do I have to register ahead of time?
A:   No, but spots are limited and pre-registering online guarantees your spot.

Full Event Procedures

Rev 26A

I - General

  1. Entrants shall comply with all existing MCSC range rules.
  2. The event organizer may appoint deputies.
  3. Entrants will be given a maximum of twenty minutes to complete their shots.
  4. Entrants may take unlimited shots at the warm up/verification target at any point during their course of fire.
  5. If, in the opinion of the event organizer or a deputy thereof, an individual scored target has been shot more than two times without just cause, the lowest scoring two shots will be scored and the others not counted.
  6. If, in the opinion of the event organizer or a deputy thereof, the scored target sheet has been shot more than sixteen times without just cause, the sixteen lowest scoring shots will be counted and all others not counted.
  7. If, in the opinion of the event organizer or a deputy thereof, a shot was taken after time has expired, the entrant shall have their highest scored shots not counted for each shot made after time had expired.
  8. If, in the opinion of the event organizer or a deputy thereof, an entrant failed to complete the course of fire due to a fault of the entrant, the following shall apply:
  9. For the poker portion: the total number of card draws earned by the entrant at the point of their withdrawal shall be awarded, with all unattempted shots marked as missed.
  10. For the match portion: the shots fired by the entrant at the point of their withdrawal shall be scored, with all unattempted shots marked as a zero.
  11. The event organizer, or a deputy thereof, shall note that the entrant withdrew in the event records.
  12. If, in the opinion of the event organizer or a deputy thereof, an entrant failed to complete the course of fire due to force majeure, the entrant's attempts shall not be counted.
  13. If, in the opinion of the event organizer or a deputy thereof, an entrant has violated event procedures or has engaged in unsportsmanlike conduct during the event, the following shall apply:
  14. For the poker portion: all targets marked as missed.
  15. For the match portion: all shots marked as a zero.
  16. The event organizer, or a deputy thereof, shall note that the entrant’s participation was disqualified in the event records.
  17. Entrants may reattempt the course of fire, unless disqualified.

II - Poker Portion

  1. Entrants shall earn one card drawn for each target which has a valid shot which breaks the two inch circle.
  2. Once the event organizer, or deputy thereof, confirms the number of cards an entrant has earned, a standard 52 card deck will be shuffled.
  3. After shuffling, and providing the entrant an opportunity to cut the shuffled deck, the number of earned card draws will be drawn off the top of the deck.
  4. The resulting draw will be recorded, and the cards re-collected by the event organizer, or a deputy thereof.

III - Match Portion

  1. Shooters will earn the points commensurate with the smallest circle broken with each of their 16 shots.
  2. Shooters will also earn an “X Hit” for each shot that breaks the center crosshair of a target.
  3. In the event multiple entrants are tied on score, the number of “X Hits” earned will be used to break the tie.

IV - Equipment

  1. Entrants may use a sling or a front rest to support their firearm, but not both.
  2. No rear rest or support of any kind may be used, apart from the shooter’s hand.
  3. The decision of the event organizer in regard to allowable equipment shall be final.

  35. The event organizer, solely at their own discretion, may allow appropriate firearms which are not pre-approved to be used in the event.
  36. All firearms used shall be equipped with period correct sights or optics.
  37. Firearm barrels must be of the same length and profile of their original specification.
  38. If, in the opinion of the event organizer or a deputy thereof, a firearm is excessively unfaithful to those used in the World Wars, they may disallow competitive use of the firearm in the event.
  39. Firearms not otherwise allowed may attempt the course of fire on an extortionary basis.

V - Operations

A - Administrative

  1. Entrants will check-in with the event coordinator or a deputy thereof, when they are ready to be entered in the queue.
  2. Prior to being enqueued, entrants will make the firearm to be used available to the event organizer, or a deputy thereof, for inspection to ensure the firearm complies with these event procedures.
  3. When a shooting space is available, the event coordinator, or a deputy thereof, will inform the next entrant in the queue.
  4. Spouses or juniors entering with a member may be queued as one group.
  5. The event organizer may, at their discretion, “bump” pre-registered entrants ahead of “walk-up” entrants in the queue.
  6. The event organizer may, at their discretion, "bump" entrants seeking their first attempt at the course of fire ahead of entrants seeking additional attempts in the queue.
  7. Shall an entrant be unavailable when they are called from the queue, the next entrant up after them will be called, with the absent entrant remaining at the front of the queue for the next call.

B - Shooting

  1. Once the shooter declares that they and their equipment are ready, and the event coordinator or a deputy thereof, ensures the targets and timer are ready, the event organizer or a deputy thereof, will verbally confirm with the entrant that they understand the course of fire.
  2. Once the entrant confirms that they understand the course of fire, the event coordinator or a deputy thereof, will verbally tell the entrant to standby, and verbally instruct the entrant to begin upon starting the timer.

C - Card Drawing

  1. Once the event organizer, or deputy thereof, confirms the number of cards an entrant has earned, a standard 52 card deck will be shuffled.
  2. After shuffling, and providing the entrant an opportunity to cut the shuffled deck, the number of earned card draws will be drawn off the top of the deck.
  3. The resulting draw will be recorded, and the cards re-collected by the event organizer, or a deputy thereof.

D - Accessibility

  1. The event organizer, and deputies thereof, will ensure entrants with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations.
